About Dental Associates
Our History
Dental Associates, founded by Dr. Sumner Hirshberg in 1947, is the oldest group practice not only in Quincy but all of Massachusetts. Dr. Hirshberg set out to provide the practice’s patients with quality, state-of-the-art dental services. We continue to follow his vision.
Currently, we are owned and operated by Dr. Lewis Hootnick. He and his dedicated team offer comprehensive dental services for the whole family, including implant placement and restoration.
Meet Our Doctors
Lewis E. Hootnick, D.M.D., General/Restorative Dentist
Dr. Hootnick joined Dental Associates in 1981. He received his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1979 and completed his residency at Park City Hospital in Bridgeport, CT. Dr. Hootnick has been practicing restorative dentistry for over 30 years and offers his patients state-of-the-art techniques and services (link to Services). He is widely respected on both the South and North Shores for his quality treatment.
Khanh Xuan Le, D.M.D., M.Sc., Periodontist
Dr. Le specializes in periodontics and implantology. She earned her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Montreal (Quebec) and Certification in Periodontology from the Universite Laval (Quebec). Dr. Le holds certifications in Advanced Education in General Dentistry form the Lutheran Medical Site in Boston, MA.
Dr. Le is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and a member of the American Academy of Periodontology.
In her spare time, the South shore resident enjoys cooking, baking, crafts, and playing piano with her daughter.
Dr. Sophana Hem, D.M.D., Associate Dentist
Dr. Sophana Hem grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. He obtained his DMD degree and Prosthodontics Certificate from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, with advanced training in cosmetic dentistry, implants restorations, complete and partial dentures, crowns and bridges, and porcelain veneers.
With his extensive clinical and didactic training, he pays meticulous attention to detail. He is affiliated with numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Prosthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He continuously updates his clinical skills and knowledge with the latest proven techniques taught by clinicians around the world so that his patients are best served.
He is involved with community services whenever it is possible. In his spare time, he likes spending time with family and friends. He enjoys kite fishing, hiking, traveling, listening to music, and playing the electric guitar. He also enjoys the wonder of astronomy, world history, technology, product development, and inventions.
Meet Our Registered Dental Hygienists
Demetra Moynihan, R.D.H. - Associate Clinical Director, Lead Hygienist
Demetra has been a valued member of our team since she graduated from The Forsyth School for Dental Hygiene in 1981. She has many long-term patients who depend on her guidance for healthy teeth and gums.
Outside of work, Demetra enjoys spending time with her family.
Amanda, R.D.H.
Amanda joined our dental hygiene team in 2015 after graduating from Mount Ida College. Amanda is a great complement to our staff and works hard to provide a high level of care to her patients. On her free days, Amanda enjoys spending time with friends, family, her husband, and of course- her puppy Finn!
Sarah, R.D.H.
Sarah is a graduate of Northeastern University class of 2003. A dedicated clinician and registered dental hygienist, Sarah joined our team in 2021. She maintains strong relationships with her patients and loves to educate them on how to achieve a healthier smile. You can always expect to find Sarah outdoors during her time away from the office, especially at the beach.
Justin Le, Hygiene
Justin is a 2021 graduate from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, on the Pre-Dental-Dental Hygiene Track (also a Quincy native!). He is extremely hardworking and very dedicated on his path to becoming a future hygienist in our office. In the meantime, he is gaining more knowledge and experience with other aspects of dentistry as an acting patient care coordinator. He is a great addition to our team! Justin enjoys exploring different places to eat, walking on the beach, and watching sports.

Caroline, L.D.A.
Caroline graduated from the Southeastern technical institute in 2005. Caroline enjoys working with people, and our patients really appreciate her gentle and compassionate chairside manner. She has a calming personality that helps her patients feel comfortable before, during and after their procedures. Outside of work she embraces the chaos with five active children, four beautiful granddaughters, a dog Niko, and a cat Lola. Despite her busy family life, she always finds time to feed her mild shopping addiction and dance whenever she can.
Meet Our Staff
Frank, Dental Lab Technician
Frank has been with Dental Associates since 1983. He is an invaluable asset to the doctors. Our lab is important to our work, and Frank’s eye for aesthetics and detail are a perfect complement to our full-service restorative practice.
Frank completed training at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
An avid skier, Frank enjoys winter sports and spending time with his family.
Joanna, Patient Care Coordinator, L.D.A.
A first generation American, Joanna received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2022. She is versatile and has dual roles in our office as a dental assistant and patient care coordinator. Joanna is empathetic and a strong communicator, traits that will contribute to her success as she plans her future for dental school. In Joanna’s free time she travels home to Albania, spends time with friends, and volunteers in the Quincy community. We are proud to announce that Joanna has been accepted to TUFTS University School of Dental Medicine. We look forward to the day when Joanna will be treating patients at our office.
Fai, Patient Care Coordinator
Fai joined the front desk team in 2021 with a background in accounting. Her efficient skills and charismatic attitude have been a huge support to our staff and patients. In her off-time Fai enjoys cooking for her family, spending time with friends, and participating in Zumba!
Flora Lambert, Office Manager
In her free time, Flora can be found in a yoga studio, swimming pool, or spending time with her family.
